Gecko Lair is owned and operated by Vanessa Lane.
I have been breeding lizards since middle school. I started
with the classic green anole, then green iguana, and finally settled with leopard geckos.
I bought my first pair of geckos as a freshman at college and was immediately impressed with
their personalities and hardiness. From traveling cross-country with me to Montana
to being handled by excited kindergartners, these geckos are just the best.
Since then, leopard geckos have been my passion.
While I intend to get a colony of African fat-tailed geckos in the next few years,
I will probably continue breeding leopard geckos.
I got my Bachelors of Science at Cornell
University in Natural Resources. I initially attended Cornell because of their
strong herpetology department but discovered I had a hidden love of birds as well.
I switched my professional career from herpetology to ornithology, but herpetoculture
still remains my favorite hobby.
I recently graduated with a Masters of Science
in Animal and Range Sciences from Montana State University. While my thesis
focused on sage-grouse, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the reptiles of Montana.
I found my first Horned Toad, saw several Prairie Rattlesnakes (including one
feeding on a baby rabbit!), several Bull Snakes, and my first Western Hognose.
I'm one of those weird people that walk in the woods and are torn between
searching the sky for birds and searching the ground for herps!
